Winning the title in my toilet buying guide, this Toto one-piece toilet deserves a review of its own. It’s the best Toto toilet out there and that’s saying something.

Toto Utramax II review

1. Features

WaterSense certified

Using only 1.28 GPF, the Toto Ultramax II is an eco-friendly, WaterSense certified toilet that’s welcome everywhere – even in States with the strictest rules for toilet water usage.

ADA compliant

With a rim height of 16-1/8 inch, this Toto Ultramax’s toilet bowl is ADA compliant and still not too high for just about every adult to use. What’s great about the Ultramax II is that it comes with an ergonomic seat specifically designed for this toilet model, so you don’t have to go searching online for a fitting toilet seat neither do you have to take into account the extra cost of ordering a toilet seat. While most toilets don’t come with the seat included, this one does.

On top of that, the seat included with the Toto Ultramax is equipped with the special SoftClose technology. That means that it won’t slam shut when you let it down a bit too enthusiastically, but will slowly close without giving you a scare when you’re washing your hands.

Double Cyclone flushing system

There’s no great toilet without great flushing power and that goes for the Ultramax II as well. It uses Toto’s signature Double Cyclone flushing system which gets rid of the waste effortlessly while also cleaning the bowl.

The Double Cyclone flushing system by Toto first uses gravity to suck the water down from the toilet tank into two nozzles. From those nozzles, the water is then pushed into the bowl using centrifugal force so that it doesn’t go straight down but makes a 360° swirling motion. It’s a bit like a tornado cleaning your toilet bowl.

SanaGloss glazing

The Double Cyclone flushing system is helped in cleaning your bowl by the SanaGloss glazing that covers the inside of it. This glazing puts up a smooth ion barrier warding off waste, mold, and bacteria so that they can easily be flushed down or cleaned off.

Toto Ultramax II: one-piece toilet

Lastly, the Toto Ultramax II is a Toto one-piece toilet, meaning no dirt or water waste can get stuck in between the bowl and the tank. This means that the toilet stays cleaner longer and is easier to wash off as well.

3. Pros

Powerful yet quiet flush

Even though the Toto Ultramax 2 only uses 1.28 GPF, it flushes down both number #1 and #2 without any issues and does so consistently and continuously over time. You also don’t need to worry about flushing when you have lots of guests coming over because this toilet both flushes and refills quietly.

Refilling happens quickly as well, so you’ll never have to wait to flush, which can come in handy when you’re a bit sick or when everyone’s had their coffee after dinner.

Easy to install

Because the Ultramax II is a one-piece toilet, it’s easier to install than two-piece toilets as you don’t need to fit the tank on top of the bowl.

Easy to keep clean

The combination of the Dual Cyclone flushing system, the SanaGloss bowl glazing, and the one-piece design make this toilet easy to clean.

4. Cons

While the Toto brand is known as a high-quality brand, it can be difficult to find replacement parts when something does break and the one-year limited warranty means you’ll probably have to go look for those parts yourself.

While not really being a con, it’s important to note that this is a higher-than-standard toilet and while perfect for people of average to tall height, it might be a bit too high for shorter people.

5. Summary

The Toto Ultramax II combines efficiency with power and a slick one-piece design. It’s perfect for those who want to save water with every flush and don’t feel like cleaning their toilet every week. Given that this is a tall toilet, it’s best suited for people who are of average height or rather tall.
